PORTFOLIO - WHOLE HOUSE REFURBISHMENT & EXTENSION, CAMBRIDGE

Design:

When additional internal space was required the client took the opportunity to develop the brief with JRA to also improve the thermal performance of the whole house and create a more coherent architectural aesthetic.

A new thermally efficient roof with suitable room for the two new bedrooms, en-suites, balconies, loft storage and large laundry store replaced the existing poorly formed roof.

The external walls were insulated and all windows re-conditioned or replaced to improve the air-tightness and thermal quality throughout.

The conservatory was replaced with a new modern corner opening conservatory connecting the refurbished internal spaces with the re-landscaped garden.

A new porch and full height glass corner above the entrance replaced the previous heavy brick extension and connected all the spaces vertically through the house, tying the refurbished original features with the modern additions.

Scope of services:

Full architectural services from inception to completion for a whole house refurbishment.

JRA worked closely with the client to define the brief, test concept design options and positively progress the iterative pre-planning and planning process with Cambridge City Council.

On site, JRA administered the contract between the client and the contractor and provided additional design advise to the client with regards to amendments and additions to the works.

After completion, JRA continued to administer the contract through the rectification period (defects) and input with further interior design considerations.
